Dress for your body shape and feel confident every day!

As an inverted triangle body shape you will have a broad back and wide shoulders, little waist definition whilst having slimmer hips. If you possess an inverted triangle body shape, here’s my advice on how to dress it.

Inverted triangles can often be full busted and very lucky to have gorgeous slender legs. You will normally take a larger dress size on your upper body than your lower body. Your goal is to balance your broad shoulders, chest and back with your lower body, which will require clothing that adds volume or creates a wider appearance so that it balances more with your upper body.

Your aim is to complement your figure by wearing simple cuts and styles. In addition, you should focus on wearing colours rather than patterns as this will best flatter your shape. Be proud to show off your broad shoulders as they are very much an asset along with your narrow hips but avoid making them appear too prominent.

Wear tops that flatter your bust so consider necklines that are slim and long such as scoop, V-neck or U-neck, halter and asymmetric to visually reduce the width of your upper body.

For those wishing to further minimise their broad shoulders, tops should be in medium and dark colours. Avoiding heavy and vivid patterns, as well as voluminous shoulder or sleeve details is also a fabulous tip!

Jacket and cardigans styles in softer, drapier fabrics will follow in the same vein as your top styles. Therefore, you will need to minimise your shoulders but also highlight your waist with belt details, styles that nip in at the waist, jackets that flare out at the waist along with fluid or waterfall styles. Avoid sleeves that fall level with your bust and opt for a ¾ length for a flattering look.

Statement and eye-catching earrings will be your perfect ‘go-to’ accessories, as these will divert attention away from your shoulders.

Look out for waist defining trousers or skirts but avoid super high waisted bottoms. Typically, all bottom styles that add volume to your lower body, which flare out from the waistline will flatter your body shape and legs and will prove to be the best styles for you.

Like skirts, the most flattering dress styles will add volume at the hips to balance out your shoulders. To achieve this, look for dresses that flare from the waist or hips in A-line, flared or pleated styles. Dresses with waist panels, side ties or ruching in the waist area are also brilliant choices for you.
