My Approach to Personal Styling & Why I Believe Style Has Nothing to Do With Where You Come From

I believe personal styling has been given a bad name. It’s often sold as something superficial, expensive, and out of reach.

But no one tells you what to wear for a board meeting when you’re the first in your family to sit at that table. No one explains the unspoken rules when you’re climbing a ladder that was never built with you in mind. And no one tells the woman who spent years dressing to fit in that she’s finally allowed to dress like herself – with all the authority, credibility and presence she’s already earned.

That gap, and that silent disadvantage, is something I’ve spent 20 years helping people close, and it really is an absolute privilege.

I know how this feels because I’ve lived it.

Growing up in Devon, adopted from Indonesia, I was often the only face in the room that looked like mine. Starting out in business and walking into my first networking events – I was younger, one of few women, visibly different, and I was absolutely convinced I had nothing worth saying. And quite often, if I’m honest, the room made me feel exactly that way.

What I learned, slowly and not always easily, is that how you dress can change all of that. Not by hiding who you are but by deciding, deliberately, to show up as exactly who you are with intention. My parents always told me to celebrate my individuality, and eventually I started listening. That realisation empowered me, and empowering others to find that same confidence is at the heart of everything I do.

20 Years Helping Leaders & Executives Show Up With Confidence

After 20 years, what matters most to me are the WhatsApp messages and emails I get afterwards.

The client who got the promotion they worked so hard for. The immense gratitude from people who finally feel incredible in what they wear, who are turning heads and receiving compliments they never expected. The woman who walked into her first board meeting and, for the first time, felt like she truly belonged there. The guy who stepped up on stage, delivered his speech and commanded the room.

I’m not here to tell you what to buy. I’m here to help you understand who you are – your lifestyle, your values, your ambitions, and build a wardrobe that works as hard as you do.

Most clients are surprised to discover they already own most of what they need. We find it, make it work, fill the right gaps, and what used to feel overwhelming suddenly becomes the easiest part of your day.

What I really help people do is feel confident enough to put themselves out there. To own their presence, show up fully, and stop waiting for permission to be themselves.

If any of this resonates, in yourself or in your organisation, I’d love to have a chat.
