How to create a confident yet meaningful, authentic wardrobe that represents your woman you are today
Personal branding is not about logos, fashion trends or colour palettes. With the clients I work with, it’s a thoughtful and intentional process of defining and promoting what you stand for as an individual and how you want to be perceived to the outside world.
And for many women and men, particularly those in their 30s, 40s and 50s, this is where major things in their life and careers begin to evolve and they experience changes in their bodies, which can feel overwhelming and out of control.
As your life evolves, your confidence grows and your career or business is moving into a new chapter, your wardrobe is often the last thing to catch up. Many women find they’re still dressing an old version of themselves and one that no longer reflects who they are today.
That disconnect can suddenly fuel self-doubt and that imposter syndrome feeling. I have felt this myself when I’ve encountered significant changes in my life such as changing career and starting a new business, having children, moving to Devon, immersing myself in a new business community and peri menopause challenges.
I meet so many wonderful women through my work as an online personal stylist who feel stuck between who they were and who they are now. I get it! They’re navigating menopause, managing busy lives, stepping into new rooms with new audiences, yet standing in front of their wardrobe thinking, “I have nothing to wear that makes me feel good.”
I know that for some women, a lack of confidence in their clothes can mean avoiding networking events or saying no to opportunities. I find that heartbreaking. These women are talented, capable and ambitious and they deserve to show up feeling confident and supported.
Have you ever felt like this?
If so, it may simply be that your wardrobe hasn’t caught up yet and you don’t currently have the right pieces to create stylish authentic outfits that truly make you feel good.
Style is part of your personal brand whether you realise it or not
What you wear is often the first message you send before you say a word. Like it or not, it communicates confidence, clarity, professionalism and personality.
When your clothes no longer reflect who you are today, it can niggle away and undermine your confidence. You may begin to question whether you truly belong in the spaces you’re stepping into or whether you deserve to follow your ambitions or step into a senior leadership role.
Fashion media is reflecting this shift too. As Vogue noted in its Spring Summer 2026 coverage,
“Spring Summer collections felt expressive, celebratory and deeply personal, driven by individuality and the joy of getting dressed.”
That sentiment perfectly mirrors what I see in real life. Women no longer want to dress to fit in. They want to dress in a way that feels aligned, authentic and empowering.

Why midlife is the perfect time to rediscover your style
Midlife is not about reinventing yourself; it’s about rediscovering who you are – I view it as an exciting time!
Your body shape may have changed, perhaps due to health challenges. Your priorities may have certainly shifted, and you want to feel comfortable and confident in your clothes – dressing for you, not anyone else. Your role in life or business may look very different to even five years ago. I know mine does, and I want my style to evolve alongside it. Feeling visible, modern and relatable, in a way that feels authentically me, really matters.
Yet many wardrobes remain frozen in time, and this can cause imposter syndrome to creep in. It’s when your outward image does not match your inner growth, and it can feel overwhelming, uncomfortable and out of control.
The good news is that your style and wardrobe can be recalibrated. This is where the Spring Summer 2026 trends support this beautifully.
1. Introduce Colour As A Brand Signature Element
Colour is one of the fastest ways to communicate confidence and individuality.
According to Vogue UK, Spring Summer 2026 embraces bold yet wearable hues, with cobalt blues, fresh greens, uplifting yellows and vibrant reds sitting alongside calming neutrals such as creamy soft whites.
Colour affects how you feel as much as how you look. The right shades lift your complexion, energise your presence and help you feel more visible in the room.
If you have been relying on black because it feels safe, I would love to encourage you to try wearing colours that make you look radiant and feel confident. Playing safe is a comfort blanket we tend to lean to when we don’t know how to push the boundaries but does not always support us in the best way.
This is where a professional colour analysis session can be completely transformational. When you wear colours that truly suit you, your confidence starts to shine through and there’s less stress getting dressed each morning.

2. Relaxed Tailoring That Signals Authority
Tailoring is still key for Spring/Summer 2026, but it’s been softened – it’s less rigid, more feminine and easier to wear.
Net-A-Porter highlights modern tailoring that feels fluid, comfortable and wearable, designed to empower rather than restrict.
Soft blazers, relaxed trousers and modern coords allow women to look polished while still feeling like themselves.
From a personal branding perspective, tailoring communicates, professionalism, credibility and clarity. It signals that you are confident in who you are and where you are going, it’s smart without being too formal.
3. Texture That Adds Depth & Personality
Texture plays a quiet but powerful role in style. When it’s not quite right to play with bold colours with some clients, I look to texture for adding a new perspective and personality.
Harper’s Bazaar describes Spring Summer 2026 as a season rich in tactile fabrics, gentle movement and layered textures that add interest without over complication. I love introducing texture to create interest within an outfit and a three-dimensional look.
Pleats, soft structure and movement create visual depth while remaining flattering and wearable.
Texture is particularly powerful for women navigating body changes, as it adds a new dimension without clinging or drawing attention to areas you feel less confident about.
4. Statement Pieces With Intent
When a new season arrives, I’ll never tell you to chase every trend. But I do enjoy looking at what’s emerging because it’s a great prompt to revisit your wardrobe, and identify the pieces you can restyle in a new way.
And if you fancy a refresh, it’s about adding fewer, more considered pieces that genuinely make you feel good, elevate your wardrobe and work hard alongside what you already own.
Who What Wear UK notes that Spring Summer 2026 trends feel expressive and wearable rather than conceptual, making them ideal for real life wardrobes.
A statement skirt, jacket or accessory can establish great foundations within your wardrobe and become part of your visual identity. These are the pieces people remember you for.
I was only talking to a lady on Zoom yesterday who told me she always wears statement glasses, and this is now very much part of her signature style. She loves being known for her glasses and it gets her noticed in different rooms in a good way.
The key is intention. Statement does not have to mean loud. It means aligned with you are, your personality and your individual preferences.
5. Accessories That Elevate Without Overwhelm
Accessories are where personal branding really comes to life. I say it often but it’s the small details that make a big impact. They’re what get you noticed and can completely elevate how professional, confident and well put-together you appear to others.
This season, let your accessories do the talking. Think bold jewellery, statement belts, interesting watches, personality-led bags and standout shoes. They’re the finishing touches that quietly elevate even the simplest of outfits.
Accessories are also a brilliant way to adapt outfits for different audiences, whether that is a networking event, a client meeting, training session or stepping onto a stage.
Your wardrobe should support the woman you are today and the exciting stage of life you’re stepping into. We all grow and evolve, and our style needs to evolve with us
I am so grateful for these words from a client I worked with last week:
“I realised my wardrobe wasn’t supporting the woman I am today especially as I stepped into a more senior role. I’d grown and evolved, but my clothes hadn’t quite caught up and they just didn’t feel right anymore.
Working with Chantelle changed that. She has an incredible talent for knowing exactly what works for you with bringing together colours, textures and pieces in a way that feels current yet timeless. She helped me build a professional wardrobe that aligned with my new position, combining items I already owned with unique additions I’d never have chosen myself.
What I discovered was that I didn’t need a whole new wardrobe. I needed focus and clarity.
Clarity about what suits me now, what’s appropriate and relevant but also, how to elevate my look.
Clarity about how I want to feel when I walk into different rooms and new situations.
Clarity about how my style supports my role, and lifestyle and who I am today.
Now I feel confident, stylish and empowered to own any room I step into. I realise it’s not about having more clothes it’s about wearing the right ones, styled in a way that truly reflects who you are.”
